Shower Leak Repairs on the Central Coast: Stop the Damage Before It Spreads

Posted on May 25, 2026

A leaking shower might look like a minor problem — a bit of wet grout, some discolouration on the wall. But water that’s getting past your shower’s waterproofing doesn’t stop at the tiles. It moves into the wall cavity, saturates the framing, grows mould, and eventually causes tile failure, timber rot, and in serious cases, structural damage to walls and floors. On the Central Coast, where humidity is consistently high, this damage progresses faster than in drier climates. Catching it early is the difference between a $500 repair and a $5,000+ bathroom rebuild.

Signs your shower is leaking

  • Grout is cracking, crumbling, or missing around the base of the shower
  • Tiles are loose, hollow-sounding, or have started moving
  • There is mould on the wall next to or behind the shower
  • The wall adjacent to the shower is damp or has paint bubbling
  • Wet patches appear on the ceiling below an upstairs bathroom
  • The shower base flexes when you step on it

How we detect and repair shower leaks

Not all shower leaks are equal. The approach depends on the cause:

  • Failed grout and silicon — regrouting and resealing is the first step. This is effective if the waterproofing membrane beneath is still intact
  • Failed waterproofing membrane — if water has gotten through the grout and the membrane is compromised, surface resealing won’t hold. Tiles need to come up, the membrane needs to be reapplied, and tiles re-laid
  • Plumbing connection leak — the shower rose connection, tap body, or waste pipe connection can leak independently of the tile surfaces. We pressure test and inspect all connections as part of our shower leak assessment

We use moisture meters to map the extent of water penetration before recommending a repair scope, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

FAQs about shower leak repairs on the Central Coast

How much does a shower leak repair cost on the Central Coast?

Surface resealing and regrouting: $300–$600. If waterproofing membrane replacement is required, costs depend on the size of the shower and extent of tile work. Call us for an on-site assessment and quote.

Can you fix a shower leak without retiling?

Sometimes. If the waterproofing membrane is intact and the leak is only through failed grout and silicon, surface resealing can work. Our assessment will determine whether it’s viable or whether tiles need to come up to apply proper waterproofing.

How long does a shower leak repair take?

Surface resealing takes 2–3 hours for the work, but silicon sealant requires 24 hours to cure before the shower can be used. If retiling is required, the timeline is longer — typically 2–3 days including drying time.
