Types of home water filters available in Australia

Under-bench carbon filter
The most popular choice by a distance. It’s installed in the cabinet below the kitchen sink, connects to the cold water supply and feeds a separate filtered water tap. Carbon block filtration strips out chlorine, chloramines, taste and odour — the best value filtered water for most Australian homes.
Reverse osmosis system
Under-bench reverse osmosis (RO) is the gold standard for drinking water. It removes virtually all dissolved solids, including heavy metals, fluoride and nitrates. RO needs a storage tank and fills more slowly than the tap draws, but the water quality is exceptional.
Whole-house filtration
This one goes in at the water meter or the point of entry to the home, so every tap, shower and appliance runs through it. It’s usually chosen for sediment and basic chlorine removal rather than drinking water purity — that’s under-bench territory.

FAQs about home water filters
Does a water filter remove fluoride?
Standard carbon filters don’t. Reverse osmosis systems do. If fluoride removal is the priority, say so when you call and we’ll quote an RO system.
Do water filters affect water pressure?
A correctly sized under-bench filter has a negligible effect on pressure at the filtered tap. Whole-house filters with undersized housings can drop mains pressure, which is why we size the system to the house rather than to the budget.
How do I know when to change the filter cartridge?
Most systems are rated for 6–12 months depending on the volume treated, and some premium units have a filter life indicator. We can set up a reminder or a maintenance plan so it never gets forgotten.
Can I install a water filter myself?
No. Connecting to the mains is licensed work in every state. A DIY install can also void the filter warranty and cause problems with insurance if it leaks — have a licensed plumber do it.
